Love is … a vegan ice cream
Posted on 16 January 2010
This week we’ve got 2 new ice cream recipes for you to try out. Guess who got an ice cream maker for Xmas??
Iced desserts have been enjoyed in China and the Roman Empire ever since the days of Caesar chasing Asterix around Gaul, and Herod trying his hand at primitive population control. But it was the Arabic regions of the world that first thought to use dairy products as the staple ingredient to bring us a dessert similar to what we know as ice cream nowadays.
Our Vanilla and rum ‘n’ Raisin recipes don’t require dairy products or eggs, nor do they require an ice cream maker. We can assure you that we had some delicious success making batches of dairy-free ice cream in a blender and freezer.
What’s more, we have an absolutely terrific Chocolate Mint Cake recipe too, which you can try … and have with … ice cream!
We’ve also got news of a new vegan-friendly accommodation listing in the Cape. La Playa offer guests simple and healthy vegan breakfasts on request. So if you plan on visiting the Cape Peninsula this summer, or find yourself looking for a place to stay as you drive down the spectacular coastal road from Kommetjie, through Misty Cliffs to Scarborough, stop by La Playa.
